Why Printer didn't work under Win 11

Hello,

I have an Photosmart D7160 and got a new PC with windows 11.

The PC don't find the Printer. Support says, windows will find the driver.

So I tried to set up the printer manually via "Select printer port". The pc also found the port with the printer, but a driver is not listed by the manufacturer. only Microsoft drivers and generic drivers. What to choose?

And why is it so complicated?
HP smart does not find the printer either.

It might seem more complicated because the full driver printer software is no longer offered for this printer.

The process is different to find an load a generic / Windows print driver than to install printer software that includes a prepackaged installer for the driver.

Examples

Windows Fax and Scan: In Windows, search for and open Windows Fax and Scan. Click New Scan, and then select your printer.

Windows Paint: In Windows, search for and open Paint. Click FileFrom scanner or camera.

Windows Scan app: In Windows, search for and open the Windows Scan app. If it is not listed, go to Windows  Scan (in English) to install it.

Scroll down to section "Related settings"

Select More devices and printer settings

Continue in Control Panel > Devices and Printers

Select from the top ribbon “Add a Printer”
