I ALREADY uninstalled and reinstalled HP Smart in the manner you described. That did not solve the problem.

This is the first time anyone has mentioned an app called HP Easy Start. I have HP Smart installed - and removed, and then reinstalled.

After doing a little research I see that Easy Start is Windows-only. I am using a MAC!!!

HP Easy start is a package of full-featured drivers for your printer and it is available for mac os, please check the below image.
