Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

 

The HP Smart app is one of the media which allows you to print. It includes tools to print, scan, check ink levels, and set up your printer on a wireless network. HP LaserJet Pro MFP M227 series printers are AirPrint compatible.

You may either install and use the printer using AirPrint driver or HP Smart app or HP easy start from HP Support site

Note: It is not mandatory to use the HP Smart app.
