@JH413, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding printer issue!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I can imagine how odd it feels when it fully powers off instead of just slipping into that quiet “sleep” mode.
Here are a few things you can try:
Check Auto-Off Settings – Many HP printers have both Sleep Mode and Auto-Off. Head into your printer’s control panel or HP Smart app > Advanced Settings and make sure Auto-Off is disabled, while Sleep Mode is enabled.
Firmware Update – Sometimes older firmware causes the printer to shut down instead of sleeping. Updating to the latest version usually smooths this out.
Power Connection – Plug the printer directly into a wall socket (not an extension or surge protector) to rule out inconsistent power supply.
Restore Defaults – If it’s still misbehaving, try a Restore Network/Factory Defaults from the control panel—this resets the power management back to normal.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
