I have a BRAND NEW Deskjet 3755 that I just purchased and brought home from the store. After installing the software, I want to configure my new printer. However, when I open the settings in the printer app, I see a dialogue box asking "A custom password has been set for your printer. Enter the password to access the printer web interface."
This printer is BRAND NEW and it is the first time I am using it!! The very thin manual specifically states that "no administrator password has been set by default". So WHY am I getting this error and WHY can I not use the features of my own, brand new printer?? I have never set such a password. I am the only user of the computer, and the printer. Printer will print if I select "print" in Word, Excel, etc, where I do not have to open HP Smart. However I cannot use the scanner as this always requires HP Smart to be opened.
I AM NOT TRYING TO BYPASS SECURITY. I only want to find out why it is asking me for a password that I never set up. There does not seem to be a way to recover or change it.
I have even printed the HP Network Configuration Page and tried to use the WPS PIN and Wi-Fi Direct Password that are shown. They do not work.
I can't even "factory reset" my own printer!! Why in the world would you ship a printer this way?? The brand new owner is automatically locked out of his own purchase?
To be clear, it is not looking for the wifi password

Hi @zorro99,
I'd like to help!
I understand your printer is asking for the administrator password.
We can perform a factory defaults on the printer to resolve the issue
- The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
- I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
- In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Support Community profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/notes/privatenotespage
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
