For some reason this printer has stopped working. Repeated attempts to reinstall the printer all fail. That is, the process completes and it seems to think the printers installed, but when you look at it, the driver is not installed. I have tried manually installing the driver and Windows complains that the driver's signature is either invalid or out-of-date. Something like that. So I have of course downloaded from HP the latest installation packages, but they are all from 2018. Seem to be the same as I have on the computer. Anyhow, my only other guess would be to remove all existing drivers for this printer from the system. Then reinstall. But not sure how to get rid of all the old drivers.

Hi @cavaughan

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I understand you are trying to install the printer drivers on the PC. I'd be happy to assist you.

  • Make sure the printer and the PC are connected to the same wireless network.
  • This printer supports only 2.4GHz network. So, the PC should be on the 2.4GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver issue

Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix printing'.

If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

Use the HP Smart app to print and scan from your Win PC

Click here to download and know more about the app.

Alternatively, you may try these steps to install the printer on the PC

  1. On the PC, go to Control panel > Devices and printers > Add a printer(at the top)
  2. Under 'Choose a device or printer', click on 'The printer I want isn't listed'.
  3. Select 'Add a printer using a TCP/IP address'
  4. Find the IP address of the printer by tapping on the wireless icon on the printer screen
  5. Type in the 'IP address in Hostname or IP address' box, click next
  6. Proceed to the next steps by following the on-screen instructions.
  7. Try printing in color.

If the issue persists, Install the printer using Windows built-in driver

Refer to this document to know how. Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Responding to you through different forum locations apparently. Anyhow, the problem is that ALL Windows 10 computers in our office are now refusing to install the driver for this printer. It has no problem installing drivers for the Brother printer, but will not for this HP printer. They all eventually error out with something like the module is not available.

BTW, the printer was working over Wifi. But due to Wifi issues, we decided to wire it. The first Windows 10 computer was only fixed by completely resetting Windows 10 and reinstalling everything. Not an option for all Windows 10 computers. There's got to be a fix.

Unfortunately there's no number for me to contact. I guess because the printer is outside of it's warranty? I guess we'll have to go buy a Brother since their drivers install fine.

I finally got it to install. Here was what finally worked.

First followed the instructions at:

http://woshub.com/error-0x00000002-windows-cannot-connect-printer/

However, after that step, trying to add the printer directly still failed, so.

Then I shared out the printer from a server. Don't know if this next item is relevant, but I told the server not to process the job on the client. Then I added the shared printer to the Windows 10 computer. Amazingly now the driver installed.

BTW, adding the shared printer without doing the first step, would not work. There was always an issue with installing the driver.

With the driver now installed, I had to add the printer manually providing an IP address and chose to install a Generic printer driver. With the printer now installed, I could then go into it's properties and change the driver to the one installed from the "Shared Printer." Then I deleted the shared printer.

I only provide these instructions in case someone else has the same issue.
