OfficeJet 3831 all in one printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have had my wireless HP printer for 4 months now, set it up worked perfectly - happy bunny!

Suddenly, only printing in mono............established that needed to re-install the drivers (assumed to have happened after a Windows update (now on V1903). Colour printing restored, happy bunny again!

Then after a period of time - printing in mono again. Repeated the driver re-install and colour was returned

Now this week, back to mono printing again! A very unhappy bunny

Am I the only user experiencing this and why  does it keep happening (and who's fault is it - HP or Microsft?)

I am not a technical person and this is very frustrating (as is the fact that I can not actually make direct contact with a support person - don't use WatsSApp or Messenger - would be nice to have 'live chat'

Hi @bbob1

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

This seems like a conflict between HP printer driver and the Win 10 OS. Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

Install the printer using TCP/IP port

1) Obtain the IP address of the printer by clicking on the wireless icon at the bottom of the printer screen

2) Right-click your printer, select Printer Properties, click the Ports tab and then click Add Port.
3) Select Standard TCP/IP Port, and then click New Port.
4) Follow the instructions to add a new port.
5) Try printing.

If the issue persists, install the printer using Windows built-in driver

Refer to this document to know how.

Try printing in color.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
