My question (please see link below) seems to be locked from replies so I start a new thread.

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Software-and-Drivers/Windows-10-can-t-detect-my-printer/m-p/75...

I went through all the suggestions without any luck. All is fine on my computer, any other device works perfectly, I have tried all ports and yes also tried to switch the cable. However it is not the cable that is the issue here since it works perfectly on my older laptop.

See screendump shows that win10 detect the printer. Tough it seem to detect it as "other devices" under Blutooth and when in printer settings it is not there and still, the HP software doesnt detect the printer at all.

detected now under "other devices"detected now under "other devices"though not appearing in printers menuthough not appearing in printers menu

Appreciate further support regaring this issue,

Hi @Arp_148,

I'd like to help!

Install the built-in print driver for a USB connection with Windows 10

  1. In Windows, search for and open Control Panel.

  2. Click Devices and Printers, and then click Add a printer.

    Clicking Add a printer

  3. On the Choose a device or printer to add to this PC window, select your printer, click Next, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver. If your printer is not in the list, continue with these steps.

Example of printers found in the Choose a device or printer to this PC window

  4. Click The printer I want isn't listed, and then select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.

Selecting Add a printer using local or network printer with manual settings

  5. Click Next.

  6. Select Use an existing port (USB001: Virtual printer port for USB), and then click Next.

  7. Click Windows Update, and then wait for the print drivers to update.

  8. Click HP, Hewlett-Packard, or Hewlett Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

  9. Click Next, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver.

  10. Disconnect the printer USB cable from the computer, and then reconnect the cable.

Thank you but my printer model 1018 is not availble in those lists (after click "windows update"). I looked under both "HP", "Hewlett-Packard" and "Hewlett Packard".

The clostest one I see is laser jet 1020.

@Arp_148

This might require remote access to your computer to fix the issue.

I request you to talk to HP support.

They might have multiple options to help you with this.

  1. Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
  2. Select the country.
  3. Enter the serial of your device.
  4. Select the country from the drop-down.
  5. Click on "Show Options".
  6. Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.
