Windows 10 has updated itself and removed the adapter driver for USB to Parallel port cable adapters.
Now the LP1 & LP2 ports are not even listed on the Device Manager.
Does anyone know how to restore the IEEE1284 driver to enable these ports again?
-----------
Note: all suggestions offered so far such as updating W10 have failed. It was updating W10 that produced this problem in the first place, and rendered a perfectly good laser printer useless.
The solution must be recent and permanent.

Hi @Amplion,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If Windows 10 has updated itself and removed the adapter driver for USB to Parallel port cable adapters, you can try the following steps to restore the IEEE1284 driver and enable the LP1 and LP2 ports again.
- Open the Device Manager by pressing the Windows key + X and selecting "Device Manager" from the menu that appears.
- Look for any unrecognized or unknown devices in the Device Manager list. It's possible that the USB to Parallel port adapter is listed under an unknown device category.
- If you find an unrecognized device, right-click on it and select "Update Driver."
- In the Update Driver dialog, choose the option to "Browse my computer for drivers."
- Next, select "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer."
- If you see an option for "IEEE 1284.4 compatible printer," select it and click "Next." If this option is not available, proceed to the next step.
- In the next screen, click on "Have Disk."
- Browse to the location where you have the driver software for your USB to Parallel port adapter. This could be a CD, DVD, or a folder where you previously downloaded the driver from the HP website.
- Select the appropriate driver file and click "Open."
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver.
- After the driver installation is complete, restart your computer.
- Upon restarting, Windows should recognize the USB to Parallel port adapter and restore the LP1 and LP2 ports. You can check the Device Manager again to verify if the ports are listed correctly.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
