m283cdw has stopped using postscript on Windows 10. Will only print using PCL6, which is incredibly slow, especially when printing graphics. Suspect is is from a driver update from Microsoft. Printer is on a network and prints postscript from Windows 11 and Server 2022 machines. Any one know where i can get an earlier version of the printer driver?

Hi @cjwright ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Product. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.
- HP Website: Start by visiting HP's official website. They often keep a repository of older drivers for their devices. Look for the support section, enter your printer model, and search for drivers. Software and Drivers for HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw
- Driver Rollback: Windows sometimes automatically updates drivers, causing compatibility issues. You can try rolling back the driver to a previous version through the Device Manager. Right-click on your printer in the Device Manager, select Properties, go to the Driver tab, and choose Roll Back Driver if available.
Refer to this document: HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

No. Things have gotten worse. The printer started giving service errors every time i tried to print from Windows 10. OK from Windows 11 and Server 2022. Solved that by a firmware update. No the printer has completely disappeared from the Windows 10 machines. So i have switched them to using the M251 as a default. There are too many videos on this HP site. I don't do videos. I learned to read a long time ago and i can read instructions faster than someone can read them to me. So that part is a bust.
I'm about to give up on Windows. I am not buying new machines because Microsoft has outdated them with Windows 11. I'll switch to Linux. Everything we use here has Linux or open source counterparts (LibreOffice, VLC etc). Microsoft doesn't want home users anyway, so i'll go away. Am abandoning all Windows 10 problems, including this one, and no looking for solutions. Just takes too much of my time.
So, thanks muchly for your assistance. Wish i had worked.
regardz,
charles wright

Windows 10: In Printer Properties (NOT Properties on the menu, but the menu item called Printer Properties. Then Select Advanced tab.
In the Driver: drop down box, the selection was set for "HP Universal Printing PS".
Changed it to HP Color Laserjet MFP M282-285 PCL6
Test Page took 19 seconds to print. On Windows 11 laptop, it already was set to HP Color Laserjet . . . and took six seconds to print Test Page. Closer to PS speeds:
No idea how the changed got made on Windows 10, but it was on more than one machine.
The 19 seconds is still a long time, but right now I am ready to chalk up the difference to machine variation and call it quits.

A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.
1) Take out the cartridges
2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.
5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.
