Thanks for your advice. Sorry, This does not work because the printer has to be connected to the network according to the procedure you gave me, and it's  not, as Windows 10 update  removed the wireless connection and windows defender won't let me use dowloaded software to restore the connection for "security reasons" although the software is genuone HP from this HP website. Windows 10 is not satisfied with the signing of the software security certificate.  The only connection shown on the printer is to an old and broken Mac laptop. There's no way round the fact that windows defender is blocking HP software. What I would like to know now is which printer would work with Windows 10 such that windows defender will not block the software or the drivers?

I think I may have discovered what's wrong but I've yet to test this. Googling, I've discovered that technically my HP printers/printer software is compatible with Windows 10.

This is my PC. I set it up and was the administrator. The message I get is that "the administrator" has blocked the printer software I've downloaded "for my security" . A few months ago I renewed the contract with the service provider and recently I while on the technical helpline to them I discovered I could not view certain things on the account because my service provider had my husband recorded as "the administrator" because his name is on the bills, even though the payments come from my account, it's my PC and I do all the technical stuff and was previously taken as the administrator. They must have changed the designated "administrator" to his name but did not tell me.

I'm guessing now that my husband will need to download the software from his account (or I'll have to do it for him - he not being technical) in order for it to have the authorisation to run. Most annoying.  We've both wanted to switch the billing account into my name but have been told previously by the service provider that it can only be done when the contract is being renewed. We forgot to do it on last renewal but never dreamed the service provider would switch who "the administrator" is.  Anyway, if I'm right the problem is not with HP or Microsoft but caused by my service provider.

I'll need to test this out.

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback.

Can you try to create another "USER account" and make it teh administrator as well?

Try doing that and install the FULL feature software.  It may solve the issue.

Let us know.

Thanks!

I've tested my theory and it's not right. My husband's account also has that "blocked by the adminstrator " message for HP set up software and he is not the administrator referred to. He has less administrative access than me. (He's only the administrator in relation to our service provider account but not the PC). Therefore "the administrator" message must be referring to Microsoft. Who else could it be?

I've now got the printer connected to the network and it prints and scans but it won't print anything from an online web page.  Googling finds that my printer and HP software drivers are meant to be compatible with Windows 10 so either that info is now out of date in relation to the latest Windows 10 update, or I can't see why it won't print online. If Windows 10 is now blocking some drivers, does HP know that or why should Windows block if the printer and software is meant to be compatible? I'd be Grateful for  confirmation by HP on compatibility of HP photosmart 6510 with Windows 10. If so, do I complain to Microsoft?

Hi,

Which Browser are you using? Edge?

Can you try IE or Chrome and see if the issue still exist?

If the drivers are on HP.com and has Win 10 OS, it is supported.

Thanks.

I've just spent most of the day going through various troubleshooting lists including HP ones.  All the trouble shooting indications are now o.k. Everything is said to be working fine but it's not. My printer will not print online.  I have come to the following conclusion. The printer says it is wirelessly connected to my hub and the only other hardware listed on it is a Mac that one of the family once used but no longer uses as it is broken. The printer does not list my own PC on it and although my PC and my printer are connected to the hub, somehow the printer is not fully "aware" of my PC, though my PC shows the printer installed and working. The printer will print local files but not emails or internet pages. If I go to the HP website it seems to think I'm using a Mac because that's listed on the printer. All this nonsense started with Windows 10 and Windows 10 update but I'm not sure that Windows 10 is the problem now having been through the diagnostic tests. It seems like something to do with connections but not connections to the hub which are o.k it seems. P.S I uninstalled and re-installed the printer software and checked everything through diagnostic tests which can't find any problems.

The browser I am using is Google Chrome. I've just tried Mozilla Firefox and it will print from that, so the problem must be Google Chrome.

I can print from Windows Edge too, so that solves the problem.

P.S . I've now worked out how to print from Google Chrome also - just had to change the destination of the print.

I'm very pleased.  I would not consider myself particularly technical but I've learned a lot through trying to solve this problem.

Many thanks for all the help from the HP forum and website.

I hope I haven't ticked the wrong solution here. The last information about trying another browser worked and that's the one  I meant to tick and give kudos to, but I dare say the other answers were also useful in taking me through a checking process as I'm sure other things needed "fixing" along the way. I would like to know why Google Chrome does not let me print and Mozilla Firefox does. I'd prefer to stay using Chrome but I don't know how to "fix" it to allow my printer to work from it.

Hi @Mixawixa,

Glad to hear that your issue is resolved and all is working well now.

Suggestion is to try and update your Chrome, there could be new updates that solve the problem.

Have a nice day!
