Windows 11 won't save my custom paper sizes on ENVY 7155

My ENVY7155 printer works perfectly with my Windows 10 computer.  

I have many custom size papers saved in the print server, and the proper size comes up, when I choose it in the program I am using to print my cards.

I would like to get a new computer, because it is a little slow.

All the new computers come with Windows 11 now, and when I tried to save and use my custom paper sizes in the new computer, it did not work anymore. I returned the computer.

When will Windows 11 be able to do what I can still do on my windows 10 computer?

As soon as they fix this, I will get a new HP Windows 11 computer.

Welcome to the HP User Community.

Based on the documentation, the full driver printer software for your printer is compatible with Windows 11 - by extension, the ability to create and use Custom Paper Size forms is also supported.

• The printer firmware should be kept updated.
• The setup requires that you install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software on the Computer.
• The Printing Preferences must be set / adjusted correctly to create and then subsequently use a Custom Paper Size form
• The printer must be aware of the paper size and type loaded in the printer tray - Tray and Paper Management
• The full driver supports the creation / save / use of Custom Size Paper forms to the extent supported by the printer Specifications.

There is no way to test, of course - the computer is gone.

That said,

The following documents and examples include the general guidelines to create and use Custom Paper Size forms.

Skip over / Ignore anything you don't need, don't want, or have already tried...

Preparation

Create Restore Point (Optional)

Before making any changes to your system, always create a Restore Point!

Stop / Exit all programs:  Browsers, games, Applications, etc.

Control Panel > icon view > System > System Protection

Click (Highlight) your main disk (C) > Select Create a Restore Point

OR

(As available)

Create a restore point now for the drives that have system protection turned on

Create

Apply or OK to exit the menu after the Restore Point is complete.

Windows Updates

Before you install / reinstall printer software, do check and run Windows Updates. 

Settings > Update and Security > Windows Updates

If you install any Windows Updates: After the update is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

NOTE:  If an update is already pending, install that update > Restart the computer and log in

Preparation - Install Full Driver Printer Software

If you have not done so,

In addition to the HP Smart application,

Install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software for the printer.

HP Smart and other print software / applications benefit from having the full driver installed.

Make sure your VPN is switched Off when installing software.

Notes

When the full driver printer software is installed,

Find the printer software listed in Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features.

The installation of the full printer software adds two shortcut icons to the Desktop.

The Printer Assistant is named for the printer and provides access to Print , Scan , and Tools

HP Scan is named for itself and provides a direct call to the HP Scan software.

Printer software installed and  listed >> Software is out of date or is not working

NOTE:  If the printer software shows installed but is not working as expected, remove and reload the software.

NOTE:  Windows 11

Windows Start > Search for Control Panel and open

Uninstall the printer software from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features

Restart the computer and log in

What if?

If software will not uninstall, appears to be removed and is “still hanging around” after you uninstall / Restart...

Microsoft:  Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed

OR

Revo Uninstaller (Free version)

then

Restart the computer and log in

Reminder:  If using USB, disconnect the USB printer cable between the printer and the computer before installing software.  (Re)Connect the USB cable when instructed to do so near the end of the installation procedure.

Basic Instructions - Install the Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software

• If using VPN, shut it off to install software
• If the printer software is already installed, uninstall it from Programs and Features > Restart the computer and log in – Reference Uninstall HP printer software and drivers
• Download and Save the Full Feature Software installation package or the Easy Start Software
• Open File Explorer
• Navigate to the folder in which you saved the installation file  (likely Downloads)
• Reminder:  If using USB cable between printer and computer, disconnect the cable before installing software.
• Right-Click on the installation package and “Run as Administrator”
• If using Easy Start > When asked, opt for "Full Driver" (exact wording might vary).
• If using Easy Start > Skip any extra software / offers you do not want (wording varies).
• After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

Tray and Paper Management

• Load / Reload the paper into the tray according to the User Guide - starting on page 15
• Alert the printer to the paper size & type on the printer control screen or use the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
• EWS is available via your web browser or from within HP Smart

Check / Adjust / Retain the Paper Size and Type at the Printer Display Panel

NOTE  This Section is not applicable to printers lacking a printer display panel.

Open Printer Tray,

    If you have not yet done so, Remove / add desired paper size - type

else

    Wait a few seconds

Close Printer Tray

On the Printer Control Display Panel,

Click Modify / Change / No-Yes (wording varies), adjust the paper size and type, Click OK

Embedded Web Server (EWS)

 Using the Printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

NOTES

• EWS is available on many network connected printers.
• Laser Printers - Options and Settings - availability and location - are likely (and frequently) different.

If EWS is supported on your printer,

Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to view / configure your printer.

No Size?  If the size of the Paper Size is not included in the Drop-down list, Select Custom

Copy dislikes mismatched content / paper size and type.  If / As available,  Check / Update Copy settings  in EWS > Copy > Settings > Copy Defaults

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper Management

Model Dependent:  Check the Advanced section (at the bottom of the Tray and Paper Management menu)

Click Apply to save changes

The rest of the procedure depends on which software you are using to view and submit the job to the printer.

• The printer should be selected as the default and current printing device.
• Printing Preferences are available directly from the driver.

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

Right-Click on your printer > Printing Preferences

• When called from within printing software / applications, Printing Preferences might be called "Printer Properties" / "Shortcuts" / “More Settings” / “Properties” / "Printer Setup" or similar.

• No Size?  If the size of the Paper Size is not included in the Drop-down list, consider / try:  Create a Custom Paper Size Form.  Reference:  HP Printers - Creating Custom Paper Sizes
