Try HP Print and Scan Doctor.

 

I tried it a while ago and it had errors.

 

The newer version here : http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03286146

 

Found the new Win 8 drivers. 

 

I now have scan in Word and a scanner listed in devices.

 

The printer is now listed as "HP156E71 (HP Officejet Pro 8600)" instead of "HP Officejet Pro 8600"

I purchased a new laptop with Windows 8.1 and I have a HP Officejet Pro 8600 and want to know how to load the scan software on my laptop.

The HP Printer Install Wizard is a support application from HP that assisted in downloading printer software. This support application is no longer supported by HP. The last update to this software was on September 22, 2015.

 

To download and install the latest version of software for your HP printer, please visit 123.hp.com, HP support website, or HP Support Assistant (in English).
