There are software/driver updates available for the printer. After going through the steps, up to saving the update(s), nothing further happens. I finally get a message stating Windows Defender Security has blocked the updates. I've looked at WDS to determine how to "upblock" this but don't see anything that makes sense. I'm strictly a user not a techy and don't want to create another problem.
The printer works well but is out of warranty so online help doesn't respond.
Thank you for your suggestions.

@Abby628
Welcome to HP Forums,
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂
I see that you're unable to update the printer related updates as the error message says Windows Defender Security has blocked the updates. Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
- Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
While you respond to that, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:
Let's turn on the firewall and check:
Using the search box on the taskbar, search for and open Control Panel.
Make sure View by is set to Category.
Click System and Security.
Select Security and Maintenance from the list.
Check the message under Review recent messages and resolve problems.
If the message is No issues have been detected by Security and Maintenance, security settings are up to date.
If a security alert displays, click Turn on now to activate the firewall.
Also, by running windows update troubleshooter we can isolate the issue:
Refer to the following steps:
- Press the ‘Windows + W’ key on the keyboard, this will bring the search interface.
- Type in ‘Troubleshooting’ and click on ‘Settings’ for the result.
- Under ‘Troubleshoot computer problem’ click on ‘View all’ on a panel to the left.
- Open ‘Windows Update’ troubleshooter.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below,
Followed by clicking on "Accept as solution" from the drop-down menu on the upper right corner,
Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum. Have a great day!
