UPD 6.6.5
Microsoft Windows Server 2016

Hello!

Has anyone had a problem using HP UPD 6.6.5 PCL6/PS drivers in Windows Server 2016 printserver?

My problem is that I cant install new printers if I use 6.6.5 drivers.

prnError.jpg

ERROR CODES:

Failed to add printer , error code 0x57. See the event user data for context information.
Opening printer \\PRINTSRV\printer,LocalsplOnly failed, error code 0x709. See the event user data for context information.

(just to clarify, we dont use dns cname on that server)

Everything works if I use 6.6.0 drivers.

The 6.6.5 driver works when I use 6.6.0 driver to install the printer and change to 6.6.5 later, but Device Settings Tab in driver manager hangs and Automtic Configuration is not working.

Latest service packs and updates are installed. Antivirus turned on/off, no change.

Any advice is appriciated.

P.S! Tested with clean Windows Server 2012R2 and everything works like it should.

So the problem is between Windows Server 2016 and UPD 6.6.5.

Tested also with clean Windows Server 2016 but the problem still exists.

Thank you for pointing out that 6.7.0 is out.

After some testing now I can confirm, that 6.7.0 UPD driver works much better than 6.6.5 with Windows Server 2016 and even Windows Server 2019.

Tested both 6.6.5 and 6.7.0 with Windows Server 2019 and can confirm that the problem with 6.6.5 UPD driver is present with new server, but 6.7.0 works like a charm.

My suggestion is, avoid 6.6.5 driver at all costs. 🙂

I have issues with spooler crashing on my Windows 2016 Core print servers when I updated from HP UPD 6.4.1. to 6.6.5. We are mapping printers with ThinPrint, which might be a key part of the issue for us and not for you.

I see version 6.7.x UPD is released. I'm not going to even bother trying it after the issues 6.6.x had for us, but maybe you would have better luck with it. Or try 6.4.1. Good luck!
