HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows Server 2019

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to add an HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One.

We were able to use the printer mostly fine on Windows Server 2012, but when we migrated to a new Windows 2019 server, we can't install the driver.

We get the following error message:

"This computer does not meet the following system requirement(s):

The Operating System of this computer is not supported. For a list of supported Operating Systems, please check http://www.hp.com or your printer documentation. Install this software on a computer with supported Operating System."

Hi @Sorrows,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To resolve the issue with installing the HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One printer on Windows Server 2019, follow these steps.

Download the Correct Driver:

  • Visit the HP Support website and navigate to the drivers section for the HP OfficeJet Pro 7740.
  • Ensure you select the appropriate driver for Windows Server 2019. If a specific driver for Windows Server 2019 is not listed, download the Windows 10 driver as it is often compatible with newer Windows Server versions.

Manually Install the Driver:

  • If the installer does not run due to the OS compatibility check, you can extract the driver files from the executable:
    • Run the downloaded driver executable but do not proceed with the installation. Let it extract the files to a known location (usually a temporary folder in the C: drive).
    • Cancel the installation once the files are extracted.
  • Open the Device Manager:
    • Right-click on the Start menu and select Device Manager.
  • Find your printer in the list. It might be under Other devices or Printers.
  • Right-click on the printer and select Update driver.
  • Choose Browse my computer for drivers.
  • Navigate to the folder where the driver files were extracted and select it.

Use Windows Update:

  • Sometimes Windows can find the necessary driver through its update service:
    • Open Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
    • Check for updates and see if the driver is available as an optional update.

Use HP Universal Print Driver:

  • HP provides a Universal Print Driver (UPD) that works with a wide range of HP printers and might be more compatible with Windows Server:
    • Download the HP Universal Print Driver from the HP website.
    • Choose the correct version (PCL6 or PostScript) and install it.

Run in Compatibility Mode:

  • If the driver installer refuses to run, try running it in compatibility mode:
    • Right-click on the driver executable.
    • Select Properties.
    • Go to the Compatibility tab.
    • Check the box for Run this program in compatibility mode for and choose Windows 10 or another previous version that worked.

Using Print Management:

  • Open Print Management from the Start menu.
  • Right-click on Printers and select Add Printer.
  • Choose Add a new printer using an existing port and follow the prompts to use the extracted driver files.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
