Envy 5640e all in one
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have this Envy 5640 since 2 years w/o any problem. It is printing in my wifi system from a PC Windows7 computer, 2 iPads and 2 iPhones. However I have one-year old Dell Windows 10 PC (64) and it will not print anything from that PC unless connected with a cable. I have reinstalled many times now without joy. The HP print and scan doctor runs ok in wifi with all green symbols. But when asking tobprint a test page nothing happens. Nothing! I even have to come out of the program with ctrl-alt-del to stop it running. And when checking the scanner option, it comes out with ”driver failure”.

@Pajlot,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I recommend you root uninstall the printer and then reinstall it and check if it helps.

Here is how it is done.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’

6.) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the “Drivers” tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Restart the PC

14.) Download and install the printer software from the below link.

If you continue facing the issue, I recommend you create a new user account on the computer following the steps in the below article and then install the printer and check.

Thanks for your reply. However it is not working. I have done everything that you suggested, but even as a ”new” administrator I cannot get the printer to run.

For info: I have reinstalled Windows10 with an USB, so it is not, I guess, in the exact same state as it was when it came from Dell.

I have not registered a Microsoft account after the reinstallation of Windows. I am however ”administrator”.

But....should that be a problem for the printer? As I mentioned it runs ok when connecting the printer with an Ethernet cable to the Dell.

Checking the drivers they say everything works ok.

Really a mystery.

Hi, I read on another support page that someone with the same problem got help from your chat support and it was a ”kernel” problem with the connection. It never said what problem, just that it was solved for the envy 5640 printer and a Dell windows 10 computer.

@Pajlot,

The HP Print And Scan Doctor might get this sorted out

Please download and run the HP Print And Scan Doctor from this Link: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/patches/HPPSdr.exe

Run PSDR v5.0.2

Once the PSDR detects the Printer, it will show up the IP address and Software Status.

Select the correct Printer and click on Next.

PSDR will check if the Printer is on the Network and communication between the PC and the Printer. Once the connection check is done, click on Fix Printing

Once PSDR goes through all checks and automatic fixes, click on Print a test page.

Regardless if PSDR printed the test page or not, click on “NO PRINT”

PSDR will then notify you that there is an update available, click on continue, and PSDR will apply the patch and ask for a reboot.

Post restart the PSDR will run automatically to check for more issue.  If no issue found close PSDR.

Also, try using the HP Smart App and let me know if that helps. Link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/hp-smart/9wzdncrfhwlh

Thanks for trying Fosette. I have done all that you suggest several times. I also deleted everything that had to do with HP, reinstalled Windows 10 (but keeping all programs and apps), installed the envy 5640 from scratch. But it will not print. The little printer icon at the bottom of the windows screen appears when pressing print, but says O (zero) items to print.

At the install everything is indicated as correct, with green markings and everything you can ask for, but no printing. Only if connectedcagain with a cable.

One problem reports ”a safety failure occured” with windows\splwow64.exe. Failcode is 0xe06d7363

I wonder if it is my computer that is failing. Dell Inspiron 2-in-1, as the printer is ok with all iOS equipment and the old Samsung Windows7 computer.

Help!!

By the way, my Print and scan doc has version 5.1
