OR you have bought a WiFi printer and ......
Wot I might try...
Step 1 whatever the OS the printer needs to connect and get an IP address from the Modem/Router, FIX it and record the MAC address accordingly. WPS button or PIN.
Step 2 ping it from whatever OS I have. So it's known to reachable.
Step 3 Does the printer need to be connected by USB to install anything? If so, Do so.
Next is whether the OS is going to be installed as a Secure Boot (Signed OS) or not.
And whether to run Virtual Box with a MS OS there-in.

Although I have used HP printers wirelessly on Linux Ubuntu for some years I have suffered problems first with an Office key 3831 and then with it's replacement, a 3833. The 3831 would print but not scan and the new one will scan but prints only very, very slowly (about a paragraph in 20-30 minutes).
I fully agree with the comments you have made, I too fail to understand why a large company claims full support for Linux but is so unhelpful regarding the follow-through in sorting out problems. If anyone from HP cares enough to look at Launchpad they will find my question [edit]
Best of luck - should you have the good fortune to find an all_in-one printer of another make that works please post details here, the very sizeable Linux community would find it of interest.
