NO -- Even were HP Smart still available, there was no charge for the application.

I suspect you landed on a similar looking app in the Microsoft Store

You are not the first customer to be tricked, in fact.

Make sure your HP Applications are sourced from HP

Now -- or very soon -- HP Smart is not available in the Microsoft Store

The "look-alike" apps are (likely) still there and easy to trip over.

The HP App is available at the App Store for your supported device (computer, tablet, phone)

• Your device (computer, tablet, phone) and printer must be connected to the same network.
• On the mobile device, Location Services and Bluetooth should both be switched ON
• In Windows, switch ON Network Discovery and File Sharing in your private profile
• If using, switch OFF your VPN

What?  Fakes have been discovered on at least one App Store –

Check who is providing the application >> “HP Inc.”

If you can’t tell, ask or use the Homepage method (if using Windows) to download and install the HP App.

At some point, perhaps even now, HP Smart will no longer be available in the  Microsoft Store  .

There are at least two possible consequences to this:

• Were there a version fix for the reported HP Smart "Scan - Save - Off-Center" bug, it can be more difficult to actually obtain a fixed version of the HP Smart app.
• Any constant request to update HP Smart is perhaps because the app cannot be updated through the conventional means.   There are caveats to that comment, none of which matter in context.
