I recently purchased a new Office jet Pro 9019 printer
The printer has been trying to download automatic updates. For some reason the download turns of the wireless signal and the update fails to happen. I then have to reset the wireless signal each time using the wizard.
If I try to do a manual update the same thing happens.
I read that that you can turn off the automatic mode and have either on request or or not at all.
When I tried to reset it it said that the facility was locked
I then read that if you return the printing settings back to the factory ones you can then have the option.
This I did and low and behold the options appeared and I have selected the "on request" option.
So that is the back ground to my overall problem.
Do I really need updates at all, only you experts will know and advise me.
How can I overcome the problem of the wireless signal dropping out.
My wireless signal is excellent and never drops out, so that is not the problem.
Any help would be appreciated.

A further question please.
I notice that there are software updates available for my printer
HP easy start printer software
Firmware update
Scan Doctor ( I already have that)
I will ignore the others I dont think they will apply
Can I update my printer (if you advise - see previous post) from my desktop pc?

OK, forgive any weirdness or errors - I am typing this answer "on the fly"...
The printer software "update" may or may not apply to the printer software (that) you likely already installed on the printer.
The updated software is the Easy Start installation package that, in turn, supports the installation of the actual printer software.
Software and Drivers Support Website for your printer:
Software and Drivers for HP OfficeJet Pro 9019/Premier All-in-One Printer
The software installer package:
HP Easy Start Printer Setup Software
Open the driver page and look at the "Fixes" category for the updates to the Easy Start package.
The way this works: Download and install the Easy Start software, run that, and during the process, select your printer software. For example, select the Full Driver (equivalent to the Full Feature Software installation).
If you have ever run Easy Start before this, you may already have the latest full driver software installed.
Generally,
Easy Start installation software allows the user to select the available software for the printer during the installation process.
For example,
For a newer, fully supported printer, you may get the choice of Full Driver or HP Smart for Windows.
The HP Smart for Windows Application is also available in Software and Drivers and / or as a separate download / installation.
On the software and drivers website, click to "Get the App"

The Full Driver is what has been (previously) known as the Full Feature Software - if you can select the Full Driver when you run Easy Start, the Full Driver is a good option: The Full Driver software provides access to all the printer features and is in the form of the printer software that includes (for example) the HP Scan software subset.
HP Smart is also good software - easy to install, mostly intuitive, and provides access to the printer features, too.
For supported printers, like yours for example, there is a mobile version of the HP Smart software, too.

Firmware
The Firmware update may - or may not - apply.
The date on the firmware update (at this writing) is July 29, 2019.
If you have ever updated the firmware on the printer, you likely do not need to download-save-install this update.
If you are not having problems with the printer, you likely do not need to install / update the firmware.

Thank you Dragon-Fur for your input.
I found the deeper I delved the problem became more confusing, decided to ring the Hp helpline direst
I found them very helpful and although it took almost an hour and allowing them access to my desktop, it now appears to be sorted.
Thank you once again
