Hello.
I set administrator password for my HP LaserJet m104w printer and forgot it, then I moved the printer to my office and now I cannot change any of my printer settings and cannot connect it to a new Wi-Fi network due to web-interface is asking me for this password for any action. I've already tried reset to default with switching on the printer holding some buttons, but nothing changed. Printing page with settings shows that printer is still trying to connect to old Wi-Fi network and that administrator password is set and wi-fi direct is disabled. I tried to find a sticker inside the printer with default password for web-interface but failed. Maybe it is lost. Is there any solution for my problem?

Hi @bewaretheliving,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thank you for sharing the situation. It's genuinely frustrating to be locked out of your own printer, especially when you're just trying to get it working in a new office. You're not alone in this, and I’m here to guide.
How to Reset the Administrator Password and Wi-Fi Settings on HP LaserJet Pro M104w
Unfortunately, the HP LaserJet Pro M104w does not have a physical reset button or a simple key combination to reset the admin password. But here's what you can try:
Option 1: Restore Factory Defaults via Embedded Web Server (EWS)
If you can still access the EWS (even in read-only mode), try this:
- Open a browser and enter the printer’s IP address (found on the configuration page).
- Navigate to Settings > General > Restore Defaults.
- If prompted for a password and you don’t remember it, this step won’t work, but don’t worry, there’s another way.

Option 2: Use HP App or USB Setup
If EWS is locked, try setting up the printer again using USB:
- Download the HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site.
- Connect the printer via USB to your computer.
- During setup, the app may offer to reset network settings or reconfigure Wi-Fi.
- If prompted for admin credentials and you’re blocked, proceed to Option 3.
Option 3: Reset via HP Software Utility (if available)
Some older HP printers support a Reset Utility Tool that can clear admin credentials. Unfortunately, this tool is not always publicly available. You can try contacting HP support again and specifically ask for:
“HP Reset Utility for LaserJet Pro M104w to clear admin password.”
Option 4: Manual Wi-Fi Setup Mode
If you want to connect to a new Wi-Fi network:
- Press and hold the Wireless button on the printer for 5 seconds until the light starts blinking.
- Within 2 minutes, press the WPS button on your router.
- This bypasses the admin password and connects the printer directly.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
