I can't format my computer right now because there is very important data.
Before this issue began, I had run the AVG Tuneup software which had cleaned a lot of "unnecessary" files in my computer. immediately afterwards this problem appeared. Is it give us a new direction?

Hi @Aor1,

I read the response. What you could do is to perform a system restore to an earlier time before the issue regarding the AVG cleaning started. Link to perform a system restore: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01835735 and follow the steps in the option "Restoring Windows 7 to a previous point" and once it is done restart the computer.

Then uninstall the printer software by following these steps:

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.

Then reinstall the printer software from the HP support site via this link:https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-deskjet-ink-advantage-4640-e-all-in-one-printer-...

Please select the correct the operating system and then reinstall the printer software and check if it works. If it still does not, try to install the built-in software for the printer from by following the steps from this link: http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879. Then try to print. This should do the trick for you.

You could also try the basic drivers for the printer from the same link that I have provided for the full feature software after uninstalling the full feature printer software again. One of these options should work for you.

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Hi @Aor1,

I read the super quick reply. Please try to create a new administrator user account from this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/instantanswers/5de907f1-f8ba-4fd9-a89d-efd23fee918c/create-a-loc...

Then perform these steps:

  • Uninstall the printer software from the steps mentioned in my previous post and try to reinstall it from the link mentioned in my previous post.
  • If that does not work, Try to install the basic drivers from the same link mentioned in my earlier post and check if the printer prints.
  • If it does not please try to install the built-in drivers from the link for built-in drivers from my previous post.
  • This should do the trick for you.

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.

Once again. The same problem.
I followed your instructions step by step, however, not in the same order.
First I installed the built in driver. In some point it asked me to insert the installation cd, I inserted and installed the software from the CD. It didn't help.
Than I uninstalled it completely again and tried to installe it from your first link. It didn't work. Nor from the full version or from the basic drivers I installed afterwards. Afterwards, I tried again to install the built in driver. I followed the instructions but now my computer didn't recognize the printer when I connected it through the USB. So this time I didn't complete the built in driver installation. ( when I tried to install the built-in driver again, the basic drivers had been already installed in my computer.)

All under a new administrator account.
Through out all these trials I couldn't open the printui.exe.
When I tryied to open printui.exe it shows me a dialogue box with the headline of "printer user interface" and bellow there are a lot of code lines without any button.

Hi @Aor1,

I read the response comprehensively. you've displayed superb attitude and great troubleshooting skills to try and resolve the issue.

Please try these steps

  • Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
  • Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
  • Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
  • Click on print server properties.
  • You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
  • Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
  • Restart the PC.
  • Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
  • Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
  • It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
  • If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
  • Ignore the Regedit option if it is not possible to do it.
  • Restart the PC again.

Download the latest full feature driver from https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-deskjet-ink-advantage-4640-e-all-in-one-printer-...and install it on the computer.

Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.

We have done a lot of troubleshooting and it is an issue with the windows operating system installed on the computer. You need to backup all your files and then reinstall Windows back to factory settings and then install the printer if this step does not work.

So for reinstalling windows, you will need the recovery media. So please contact HP phone support to order your copy of the recovery media if these steps do not work.

HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/?openCLC=true

(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.

(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.

(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.

(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.
