Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Recent problem I could not scan from Desktop computer when logged in as " Administrator" but could when signed back in as "user1" this got fixed but now some things won't print from the desktop ie credit card statements and banking. I did print from a word document ok. the printer comes up as  HP printer but the IP address is not correct. I can't seem to update . tried Print and Scan Dr. but it only finds the scanner not the printer. Printing is fine from iphone/ipad  I have emailed documents to myself to print from phone. Seems to only happen when signed in as "administrator"

triedd to delete printer from control panel and set HP smart as default but didn't help. tried to reconfigure printer in setup/ not helpful it won't seem to take the new IP address

3. Clear Print Queue

  • Clear Print Jobs:

    • Ensure both the "Administrator" and "user1" accounts have sufficient permissions to access the printer.
    • Go to Start > Settings > Accounts > Family & other users.
    • Check if there are any differences in permissions between the accounts.

8. Perform a Hard Reset of the Printer

  • Restart Printer:
    • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord. Wait for at least 60 seconds.
    • Plug the power cord back in and turn the printer on.

9. Test Different Document Types

Hi Kuroi_Kenshi Thank you for your reply.

Still having problems. 2 Printers are showing HP Smart and HP 7900e ( actually it shows as HP   C65AC HP ENVY inspire 7900 series)  Both have correct IP addresses. Printer was deleted and then reinstalled. HP Smart app shows the printer and it shows ink levels. Printer is communication with all other devices . Things seem to be getting more messed up. Tried printing from word app today and the printer comes up with incorrect IP address ( last number out) and won't print. If I try selecting another printer the correct 7900 comes up but it will not accept it to change to.

Both HP Smart and HP 7900 will print test pages port names same and only difference is one shows IP as http:// xxx......with more detail.

But when I try to print  from it seems anywhere else now it goes to printer xxx......12  instead of correct xxx.....13

nothing in Queue.. I sign into HP support site to download updated programs  I tried the Driver package and the quick . New problem when I tried to install the programs I am asked to sign into my HP account and it doesn't accept user name and password. Odd because I have signed in just a minute earlier with the same credentials and submitted printer serial number and pin number.Looks like my  User1 account also signs in as administrator permissions.

I have only been signing in under. I now sign in as Administrator because some programs stopped working when signed inas User1. Worked fine for a long time then another microsoft update or something messed them up.

Windows has been reinstalled a more than once.

Printer and computer has been shut down and restarted numerous times have unplugged printer a couple of times today.

The computer is communicating with the printer Ok it is just that it seems to want to print to a printer that has a different IP address.

Hi @jhamil1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Verify the Correct Printer IP Address

On the printer, go to Settings > Network Setup > View Wireless Details.

Note down the correct IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.13).

Remove Old Printer Entries & Reinstall the Correct One

Go to Control Panel → Devices and Printers.

Right-click on all instances of your HP printer and select Remove Device.

Restart your computer.

Reinstall the Printer:

Click Add a Printer in Devices and Printers.

Select Add a printer using a TCP/IP address.

Enter the correct IP address noted earlier (192.168.1.13).

Click Next and follow the prompts.

Set the Correct Printer as Default

Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.

Right-click on the correct HP Envy Inspire 7900e and select Set as default printer.

Disable Let Windows manage my default printer (if enabled):

Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.

Scroll down and uncheck the option.

Reset the Printer’s Network Settings (if issues persist)

On the printer control panel, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore Network Defaults.

Reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi using the correct network credentials.

Uninstall & Reinstall HP Smart and Printer Drivers

Uninstall HP Smart and any HP printer software from Control Panel.

Restart your computer.

Download and install the latest drivers from HP Support.

Re-add the printer using the correct IP address as described in Step 2.

Try Another User Profile

If the issue occurs only when logged in as Administrator, try creating a new Windows user profile:

Settings > Accounts > Family & other users > Add someone else to this PC.

Log in with the new account and check if printing works.

After trying these, let me know what works (or if the problem persists)! 😊

I hope this helps.

Well still having problems, uninstalled printers and software. Reinstalled HP smart. And connection to wifi ok but full installation of software doesn’t happen.merror message “ installation file” needed and directed back to HP site . Another problem is when trying to install I’m asked to sign in before installing. I am already signed in but when I enter my id and password I get rejected saying wrong credentials or not recognized. Tried multiple times but I am unable to proceed. Yes I’d and password are correct. Yes I am signed in already.
I have tried to reset computer with an earlier restore point but restore will not complete.

I think something is messed up with windows.  The computer (. HP TE01 4000i) came with Windows 11 installed. windows 11 seemed really annoying and I downgraded to Windows 10 . Along the way things are going funny, some programs stopped working , which did work in 11, They work (Corel ) if I sign in as administrator rather than my Username. also it’s one less step, don’t need to enter a PIN each time. I think more things happened when the computer did an automated upgrade to Windows 11.  Back to Windows 10 again and a restore. I am thinking of doing a clean install of Windows 11. I made restore and recovery media when the computer was new. Manually reinstalling the programs I want and trying to reconnect the printer. It’s unfortunate that Microsoft makes upgrading to a new computer so difficult.

Hi @jhamil1

It sounds like you've been through quite a journey with your computer and printer setup!

Let's try few more steps to address the issues step by step:

Printer Issue: ENVY Inspire 7900e

Since your printer works fine with mobile devices but not with your desktop, the problem might be related to the Windows configuration or printer drivers.

Here are some troubleshooting steps:

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Visit the HP Support page for your ENVY Inspire 7900e and download the latest drivers compatible with Windows 10.
  • Ensure the drivers are installed correctly.

Check Printer Connection:

  • If you're using Wi-Fi, ensure your desktop is connected to the same network as the printer.
  • For USB connections, try a different USB port or cable.

Set Printer as Default:

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your printer and click Set as Default.

Print Spooler Service:

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
  • Locate Print Spooler, right-click, and select Restart. Ensure the startup type is set to Automatic.

HP Smart App:

  • Install the HP Smart app on your desktop and use it to reconnect the printer.

Windows Downgrade and Upgrade Issues

Downgrading and upgrading Windows can sometimes lead to compatibility issues. Here's how you can approach a clean install of Windows 11:

Backup Your Data:

  • Before proceeding, ensure all your important files are backed up to an external drive or cloud storage.

Use Recovery Media:

  • Since you created recovery media when the computer was new, use it to perform a clean install of Windows 11.

Manually Reinstall Programs:

  • After the clean install, manually reinstall the programs you need. This ensures a fresh start without lingering issues.

Check Compatibility:

  • Verify that all your programs, including Corel, are compatible with Windows 11. You can check for updates or patches from the software's official website.

Windows Settings:

  • Customize Windows 11 settings to suit your preferences, such as disabling PIN requirements if you find them inconvenient.
  •

It’s understandable that upgrading to a new computer can feel challenging, but a clean install often resolves many underlying issues.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
