Hi @warwick-2744,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the HP LaserJet P1005 is a reliable older printer, but its drivers are not included by default in Windows 11. However, you can try the following steps to get it working with your HP Pavilion Desktop PC:

Step 1: Download the Driver from HP's Website

  1. Visit the HP Software and Drivers.
  2. Search for "HP LaserJet P1005" in the search bar.
  3. If no specific Windows 11 driver is available, download the Windows 10 driver (if listed). Windows 11 often supports drivers designed for Windows 10.

Step 2: Install the Driver

  1. Run the Driver Installer:
    • Locate the downloaded file, typically in your Downloads folder.
    • Double-click the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.
  2. Connect the Printer:
    • When prompted, connect the HP LaserJet P1005 to your PC via USB.

Step 3: Use Windows Update for the Driver

  1. Open Settings > Windows Update > Advanced Options > Optional Updates.
  2. Look for "Driver updates" and see if the HP LaserJet P1005 driver is listed. If so, select and install it.
  3. Reboot the computer if prompted.

Step 4: Use HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor

  1. Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  2. This tool can detect the printer, identify issues, and install missing drivers.

Step 5: Manually Install a Basic Driver

If the steps above don't work:

  1. Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Add a Printer.
  2. Select "The printer that I want isn’t listed."
  3. Choose "Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings."
  4. Select Use an existing port (e.g., USB001).
  5. Choose "Windows Update" (may take a few minutes to load additional printer drivers).
  6. Look for "HP LaserJet P1005" in the list. If it's not there:
    • Select a similar model, like the HP LaserJet P1006, as it often works with the P1005.
  7. Complete the installation.

Step 6: Use a Universal Print Driver (UPD)

  1. Download the HP Universal Print Driver from the HP website.
  2. Select "Dynamic Mode" during installation and follow the instructions to set up the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
