Cannot re-install this printer.  Install HP Smart and HP 123 appears to install, but printer driver actually doesn't download.  Turned off print spooler, deleted device, uninstalled software.  Initially, s/w would not uninstall - problem msg.  Went through link to go thru MS operating system.  It deleted links to HP7740 printer.  Restarted laptop, went thru HP install again.  Printer appears as a device installed but errors out when something sent to print.  Could not find printer driver software so looks like it didn't download, but device was created.  My warranty just expired Aug, 2020.  Having problem re-installing this HP7740 wide carriage printer on my MS Surface Pro too.   Oh tried to upgrade firmware, but that errored out too.

Welcome to the HP support community.

 

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers. 
  • Restart the PC again.

followed the steps.  Noticed that HP smart was used to install the printer.  Got print error when trying to print test page.  Also, where did the driver software load to?  Couldn't find it.  Could do a scan using the HP smart program though, but couldn't create a shortcut and pin to task bar.  Earlier I loaded the generic driver PCL-3 and I could print but not scan.  Which install program should I be using HP 1-2-3, or HP Smart?  Which one will load the full driver set?

 

Been trying to re-install this HP7740 for several weeks now.  Starting looking for another printer.  Even having problem getting this printer installed on my surface and another Dell Laptop (my backup computer).

 

Is the installation program (s) faulty due to the latest Microsoft OS update?

You can use HP smart app to install the printer driver.

printer driver wont install.  At one point got error code 2753.  Hp Smart and HP Print and Scan Doctor both could not resolve the problem - unable to load printer driver software.

Went through process to manually delete references for the HP 7740 printer.  Note that under Devices, shows "driver is unavailable".  Via Print and Scan Doctor 5.4.1, could not print test page - told me there was was software problem.  When I tried to uninstall s/w, told me that cannot find uninstall program.

This might require remote access of the computer to fix the issue.

I request you to talk to HP support.

They might have multiple options to help you with this.

  1. Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
  2. Select the country.
  3. Enter the serial of your device.
  4. Select the country from the drop-down.
  5. Click on "Show Options".
  6. Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
