to finish setting up my printer i need to log into the app.  When i try it goes round in circles and every few seconds tells me to log in again so i get no further than the log in page

Without any context, the following is a best guess about your printer, its connection, your Operating System / version, and the "app".

 

Printing App might refer to one of:

  • HP Smart -- Windows
  • HP App -- Windows, Mobile

HP App / HP Smart - Windows

 

If removing the printer from the application followed by restarting the computer does not help, HP App and / or HP Smart can be "Reset".

 

The app Reset can cure odd issues that are related to your application data settings in your Windows account.

 

-- What if? --

If the app Reset does not work by itself, add the extra step to Remove the printer from the app > Uninstall the application > Restart your computer and "Get" a new copy of the application from the Microsoft Store

 

Sample

 

The Reset action removes the app data without uninstalling the application.

 

Settings > Apps > Installed Apps

 

Search / Find / Select HP Smart in the installed apps list

OR

Search / Find / select HP (app) in the installed apps list

 

Open Advanced options > Reset the app

 

Restart the computer and log in

Open HP Smart > Sign in > Add Printer(s)

OR

Open HP App > Sign in > Add your printer(s)

 

-- What if? --

If the app Reset does not work by itself,

then

Uninstall the HP Smart App and start over.

OR

Uninstall the HP App and start over.

 

Restart the computer and log in

 

“Get” a new copy of HP Smart / HP App:

 Microsoft Store or 123.hp.com - Printer setup from the HP® Official site

 

Open HP Smart / HP App > Sign in > Add Printer(s)

As of this writing, the HP Smart app on my Windows 11 computer has just updated.

New Version = 165.3.1107.0

 

Check for an HP Smart update in your  Microsoft Store

 

Update if your version of HP Smart has not recently done so on its own.

Perhaps restart your computer after the update -- or even if you do not update the application.

 

Check version

Open HP Smart → Lower left corner "App Settings" gear → About

HP App - Windows and Mobile

 

The HP App is the "new" wrapper / application that has been available in supported Mobile devices since Fall of 2025 and is now being released for Windows, too.

 

HP App also requires that you sign into the application.

 

Check for the HP App in your  Microsoft Store
