Hi @pintitnow ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting the error code 0x6100004a and the persistent paper jam message on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 suggests that there could be a sensor or mechanical issue even if no jam is visible.

Here's a step-by-step guide to address the problem:

Step 1: Power Cycle the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug it from the power source.
  3. Wait for 2–3 minutes to clear any residual power.
  4. Plug it back in and turn it on.
  5. Check if the error persists.

Step 2: Inspect All Accessible Areas

Even if nothing is visible initially, check these areas thoroughly:

  1. Input and Output Trays: Ensure there are no small pieces of paper stuck inside.
  2. Rear Access Door:
    • Open the rear access door or duplexer (if your model has one).
    • Inspect for any obstructions or paper scraps.
  3. Carriage Path:
    • Turn off the printer and open the ink cartridge access door.
    • Manually move the carriage (where the cartridges are located) to the left and right. Remove any debris or obstructions you find.
  4. Automatic Document Feeder (ADF):
    • Check the ADF for jammed paper. Lift the ADF cover and look for small pieces of paper or debris.
  5. Rollers:
    • Clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.

Step 3: Perform a Printer Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  3. Plug it back in, turn it on, and check for errors.

Step 4: Update the Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

Sometimes, firmware bugs can cause false error messages.

  • Go to the HP Support website and download the latest firmware for your printer.

Step 5: Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor

  1. Download the HP Print and Scan Doctor on your computer.
  2. Run the tool to diagnose and automatically fix common printer issues.

Step 6: Service or Replace the Printer

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it could be:

  • A faulty sensor.
  • A mechanical component issue inside the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
