Hi @NancyCon,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for the info. If your HP Deskjet 1050 J410 series (USB connected) printer stopped responding in Windows 7, and the icon doesn’t launch the printer window anymore, here are some focused troubleshooting steps to get it working again:

1. Check USB Connection

  • Unplug the USB cable from both the printer and the PC.
  • Reboot the PC and reconnect the cable to a different USB port (avoid USB hubs).
  • Wait for Windows to recognize the printer.

2. Restart Print Spooler Service

Sometimes Windows services freeze up.

  • Press Windows + R, type: services.msc, press Enter.
  • Scroll to Print Spooler, right-click and select Restart.
  • Try clicking the printer icon again.

3. Open Printer Queue Manually

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click HP Deskjet 1050 > choose See what’s printing.
  • If the window still doesn't open, the driver may be corrupted.

4. Reinstall the Printer Driver

  • In Devices and Printers, right-click your printer > Remove device.
  • Disconnect the printer.
  • Reboot your computer.
  • Download the full driver/software package from HP's official site for Windows 7:
    HP Deskjet 1050 J410 Drivers
  • Reinstall with the printer disconnected, then connect it when prompted.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
