Hi @TinaRich,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand that your printer keeps showing “Complete Setup” and does not finish the setup process even after multiple attempts. This usually happens when the printer has not completed the initial setup steps, such as alignment, cartridge initialization, or network configuration.

Please try the following steps.
Step 1: Complete Printer Alignment

Many HP printers will keep showing “Complete Setup” until the alignment page is printed and scanned.

  1. Make sure paper is loaded in the input tray.
  2. Install the ink cartridges properly.
  3. When the printer prompts for alignment, print the alignment page.
  4. Place the printed alignment page face down on the scanner glass.
  5. Press OK / Scan on the printer to complete the alignment.

Step 2: Restart the Printer

  1. Turn the printer OFF.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back in and turn the printer ON.

Step 3: Complete Setup Using the App

Open the HP Smart and finish the setup process.

  1. Open HP Smart on your phone or computer.
  2. Click Add Printer.
  3. Select your printer when it appears.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the setup.

Step 4: Check Ink Cartridges

Make sure:

  • The cartridges are new or properly installed.
  • All orange protective tape is removed.
  • The printer door is fully closed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
