Thank you for posting your query on HP Community,
Let's start off by running Windows update troubleshooter:
Download and install the troubleshooter from this link.
Now try to perform Windows Updates -
1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.
Now run HP Print and Scan Doctor:
If you are facing any issue while using the printer then try using HP Print and Scan Doctor (PSDR). PSDR is an automated tool which can diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. Please go to this link: HP Printers - Using HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows) to download and run HP PSDR. Once you open the program, select your printer and click on “Fix Printing” to automatically diagnose and fix the issue.
I suggest you uninstall the printer drivers from the root level and then reinstall them by following the below steps:
- Press “Windows key” + “r” to get the “Run” window.
- Type "services.msc" to get Services – Go to “Print spooler” – Right-click and “Stop” the service.
- Now again open "Run" - Type “spool” and OK - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
- Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
- Now check for issue resolution.
- If the issue persists, also try clean installing the printer drivers. Here are the steps:
- First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
- Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Envy printer entries and uninstall them.
- Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
- Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
- Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
- Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
- Restart your computer.
- Please click here to download and install the full feature software for this printer.
- Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Let me know how it goes!

Thanks for help.
I have been through your suggestions: Windows updates OK
Print Doctor says software up to date and no other suggestions
Have deleted and reinstalled as instructed. Installation went without problems, but Control panel says, driver is unavailable.
Going into device manager and, update software It lists hp envy 5000 series pcl3 24 94 1 7079 and it indicates that the software is signed. However on trying to update a window appears saying that the update cannot proceed as it is not signed or not correctly signed.
The installation worked fine on my desktop Pc and that prints OK
HP e print works fine on this laptop and also in desperation the other day devivce manager offered envy 5450 software which did in fact work, although this has now been deleted (as instructed).
Have you any further suggestions please

Let's try these steps here:
I would suggest here is to Uninstall the printer drivers and then try installing the Windows built-in drivers for the printer.
Simply turn on the printer and connect the USB cable from the printer to the PC. The drivers will be installed in 2-3 minutes. Go to Control panel - Devices and printers to check the printer entry and make it as default printer if needed.
For more details, please refer to this support document - HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver
Once done, print and check if that works.
If the issue still persists, then I would suggest the next option would be to create a new user account.
In this scenario, I would suggest you uninstall the printer first and then follow the steps to create a new User account.
Once done, restart the computer.
Now login to the new user account and then follow the steps from the previous post to install the full feature software for this printer.

Let me know the outcome!
Cheers 🙂
