@TrishaD, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Geographic Locations to Decimal Degrees and Degrees Minutes Seconds (DMS)!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

To calculate the decimal degrees or degrees minutes seconds (DMS) for the geographic location of your HP Envy printer, you can follow the steps provided in HP's calculator manuals. Here's a simplified overview based on the procedures used in HP scientific calculators:

Decimal Degrees to DMS Conversion

Enter the Decimal Degrees:

  • Use the calculator to enter the decimal degrees value.

Conversion to DMS:

  • Use the specific function key for conversion (e.g., HMS → for HP calculators).

DMS to Decimal Degrees Conversion

Enter the DMS Value:

  • Key in the degrees, minutes, and seconds (D.MMSSss format).

Conversion to Decimal Degrees:

  • Use the function key to convert back to decimal degrees (e.g., → HMS).

Example:

For example, to convert 123.456 degrees to degrees, minutes, and seconds (DMS):

  • Enter 123.456 in the calculator.
  • Press the relevant conversion key (like → HMS).

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

BUT how do you get the decimal degrees (starting point for your conversion)

Hi @TrishaD

To determine the decimal degrees for a location, the starting point typically comes from latitude and longitude coordinates. Here’s how you can obtain those decimal degree values:

1. Locate the Printer's IP Address

  • On your printer, go to the Settings or Wireless menu, and select Network Setup or Wireless Settings.
  • Find the IP Address listed there.

2. Find Geographic Coordinates

  • Once you have the IP address, you can use online tools like an IP geolocation service to determine the approximate physical location.
  • You can use the IP address of your printer or connected device to estimate latitude and longitude through an IP geolocation service. Popular websites such as IP Location or ipinfo.io provide this data.
The coordinates received from these services are usually in decimal degrees format, like 26.5298° N, 80.0905° W for Boynton Beach, FL.

3. Using GPS Devices or Apps:

  • If you want precise coordinates for your printer’s physical location, you can use GPS-enabled devices or apps (like Google Maps). Drop a pin on the map where the printer is located, and the app will display the decimal degrees.

Once you have the decimal degrees, you can easily convert them to degrees, minutes, and seconds (DMS).

Take care, and have an amazing day!
