Hi @Pjeke,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To check for firmware updates for your HP Officejet 4500 printer, you can follow these steps.

  • Go to the HP Support website (https://support.hp.com/).
  • Enter your printer's model number (e.g., "Officejet 4500") in the search bar and click on the search icon.
  • Navigate to the product page for your printer model.
  • Look for a "Software and Drivers" section or a "Firmware" section on the product page.
  • If there are any available firmware updates, they should be listed there along with instructions on how to download and install them.

It's essential to follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully when updating firmware to ensure a smooth and successful update. Additionally, make sure your printer is connected to the internet to check for and install any available updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Obviously, you never made even the slightest attempt to verify any of your suggestion before you spit out all of that utterly incorrect information and wasted who knows how many people's time.  Had you actually done any of this you would have found that there is no firmware section on the page.  All of your pages say exactly the same thing as you said, and who knows how many years ago that they stopped being true for this device.  Feel free to give your worthless information, but do it after you verify it first.  But even then you should just provide a direct link to the most recent firmware update; stop telling people to go to a page which explicitly will be changed over time and stop providing the links.

In all likelihood, yes.  The printer started using HP 901 inks, which were discontinued with HP 60 ink being introduced as a compatible replacement.  But the base printers do not recognize HP 60 ink as being compatible.  So the only way for the printers to start recognizing the HP 60 ink would be for there to be a firmware update.

👏👏👏

I contacted the support and I received the same dumb answer.

At my insistence, they suggested that I buy a new one 😡

I pointed out how hypocritical it is to say HP is environmentally responsible when they stop the support for their products.
