I have downloaded and installed HP Smart three times...used the diagnostic, and it shows scan error. Tried Fix Scan Error but only the document feeder works. It "scanned" 2 pages but send blanks to the PC.

Hi @nypatrick
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're encountering an issue where your HP printer's document feeder is scanning pages, but the scanned images are coming out as blank. This can be caused by several factors, such as software or hardware issues, settings configuration, or a problem with the scan head. Let’s go through a series of steps to try to resolve the problem.
1. Check the Scanner Glass and Document Feeder
Ensure there are no obstructions or dirt on the scanner glass or inside the automatic document feeder (ADF).
- Scanner Glass: Open the scanner lid and check if the glass is clean. Dust or smudges on the glass could cause issues during scanning.
- ADF: Make sure the document feeder path is clear of any debris or paper scraps.
2. Check for Paper Type and Orientation
Ensure that the paper is loaded properly into the ADF.
- Paper Orientation: Make sure the documents are placed in the ADF face up and oriented correctly.
- Paper Type: Try scanning standard letter or A4-sized paper to ensure it is compatible with the scanner.
3. Run the HP Printer Diagnostic Tool Again
Since you mentioned you've used HP’s diagnostic tool, try the following steps again to ensure the printer software and drivers are configured properly:
- Open HP Smart and go to Help or Support.
- Select Printer Diagnosis or Fix Scan Issues again to see if there are any other issues that were missed in the initial run.
4. Reinstall HP Smart and Scanner Drivers
It’s possible that there are corrupted drivers or software issues. Let’s do a clean installation.
Steps:
- Uninstall HP Smart:
- Go to Control Panel (Windows) or Applications (Mac) and uninstall HP Smart.
- Restart your computer.
- Reinstall HP Software:
- Visit the HP support website and download the latest drivers and software for your printer.
- Install the software, including the full feature drivers and scanner software.
- Once installed, open HP Smart and try scanning again.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
