Airprint is supported.

Printer Specifications for HP OfficeJet Pro 8700 Printers

I am not aware that you need to install HP Smart (from HP) to use Airprint - no "drivers" in that sense.

If you do need -- or want -- to install HP Smart on your supported iPhone, go to your Apple app store.

What else?

Make sure both printer and iPhone are on the same network.

For example, if your iPhone is linked to your Data line, change to your Wireless network.
