Hi @kr_123_kr,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your printer shows dual-sided (double-sided) printing as locked or unavailable. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this and how to unlock it.

Confirm the printer supports automatic duplex printing
Check the printer specifications to verify if it has automatic duplex (2-sided) hardware.
Some models support only manual double-sided printing.

Check the paper size and type settings
Open Print Preferences and confirm the paper size is set to A4 or Letter.
Duplex options are disabled if the paper size or type is unsupported.

Verify the printer driver is correctly installed
Open Devices and Printers, right-click the printer, and select Printer Properties.
If Windows installed a basic driver, duplex options may appear locked.

Enable duplex in printer properties
In Printer Properties → Device Settings, locate Duplex Unit / Two-Sided Printing.
Set it to Installed or Enabled, then click Apply.

Check the printing app settings
Open the document’s Print dialog and expand More Settings.
Make sure Print on Both Sides is selected and not greyed out.

Disable incompatible print modes
Turn off Borderless, High-quality photo, or Draft modes.
These modes can automatically lock double-sided printing.

Update or reinstall the full feature driver
Install the full feature driver for your printer model, not the basic Windows driver.
This restores advanced options like duplex printing.

Restart the printer and computer
Power off the printer, unplug it for 60 seconds, then power it back on.
Restart the computer to refresh driver communication.

Check tray and paper loading
Ensure paper is loaded correctly and the tray is not set to special media.
Incorrect tray configuration can disable duplex options.

I hope this helps.
