since changing both inks at the same time last week (genuine hop inks) i have had a e3 error and flashing lights at paper symbol and ink symbol. --- I have followed previous sugestions on this forum removing the colour ink then i tried unplugging from rear of printer for 60 seconds - this latter problem seems to have made it worse if anything.
any more ideas of how to fix this?

Update the printer firmware
Download available firmware updates from the HP website
With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
Also, the document Blinking Lights should help you with additional steps.
