I have to force quit the application in order to get it to end.
I have an order copy of HP Utility.
I added a new printer, HP MFP M477fdw.
The HP Utility app does not recognize the new printer.
It suggesting updating the app. Just how do I do that?
I was hoping that HP Easy Start would do the trick.
One extra note. I am running OS X El Capitan Version 10.11.4 Beta (15E39d)

I'm having the same problem. All of a sudden, with upgrading to Yosemite 10.11.4 beta I lost the ability to print from my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus e-all-in-one. I tried downloading the new drivers, and they download but do not install, just hang on "waiting" and I have to force quit. I'm stuck unable to print at home. This is incredibly inconvenient!!!

Hi,
First, sorry for my english ... i'm French ... nobody is perfect
On El Capitan, go to "system settings" ...
Go to security
unchek : My security settings are set for "Mac App Store and identified developers
And chek : security settings were set to "Anywhere"
Removed all the HP utilities and rebooted first. Then reinstalled using the HP Easy Start and making sure the security settings were set to "Anywhere"
And … it’s worked fine …

Same here - wating message. I uninstalled all HP files and started from scratch and still get the message. Running OS Sierra. About ten seconds away from ordering a Canon printer off of Amazon out of sheer frustration.

I understand that the HP Easy Start is not working on your Mac OS Sierra.
To better assist you, please let me know the exact printer model no. This link will help you to find the printer model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l.
I will wait for your response. Meanwhile, you may refer to this document: Installing a Mac Printer Driver Using Apple Software Update

I'm having the same trouble with my HP OfficeJet 3831. Because I'm using a company laptop with some security restrictions, I'm not allowed to choose "anywhere" in the security System Prefs. But going to the security prefs and unlocking the lock icon got it to start making progress for me on the top bar, where previously it had just been frozen and grey.
Nope, doesn't complete. Stops short of full installation. So it looks like it *does* need to run unsigned downloaded apps without prompting. Which means if you can't set your Mac in full insecure mode (like my company laptop with restrictions) then you can't install the drivers.
It freezes for me with the top bar about 90% full, still saying "System activity in progress, please wait..."
Never gets to "HP Easy Scan" or "Product Help".
I'm using MacOS Mojave (10.14.6).
