Hi @frank39,

Thank you for your response,

Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the app printing problem.

Check Default Printer Settings:

  • Make sure your HP Envy 4512 is set as the default printer.
  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners, then select your printer and click Set as Default.

Clear Printer Queue:

  • Sometimes print jobs get stuck in the queue. Clear the print queue by going to Devices and Printers, right-clicking your printer, and selecting See what's printing.
  • If there are any pending jobs, right-click them and choose Cancel.

Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Uninstall the current printer drivers, then download and reinstall the latest drivers from the HP Support website.

App-Specific Printing Settings:

  • Check if the app you're trying to print from has specific print settings. Ensure it's set to print to your Envy 4512.

For the Chrome issue with a strange default page that opens to a nonexisting link, it could be related to a browser unwanted extension. Here's how to fix that.

Check Chrome Extensions:

  • Open Chrome and go to the three-dot menu at the top right.
  • Click on More tools > Extensions and disable any suspicious or unknown extensions. Remove any that seem unfamiliar.

Reset Chrome Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Reset and Clean Up > Restore settings to their original defaults. This will reset your start-up page, new tab page, search engine, and pinned tabs, but it won’t delete your bookmarks or passwords.

Clear Start-Up Pages:

  • Go to Settings > On Startup, and make sure it’s set to Open the New Tab page or your preferred page.

Check for Malware:

  • Run a scan using an antivirus program or Chrome’s built-in Safety Check under Settings > Privacy and Security to make sure there are no malware or unwanted programs installed on your system.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @frank39,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy 4512 prints from HP Smart but not from other applications, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.

Check Printer Settings:

  • Ensure the printer is set as the default printer on your computer. You can do this by going to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners, and selecting your HP Envy 4512 as the default printer.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Outdated or corrupted printer drivers can cause printing issues. Visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest drivers for your HP Envy 4512.

Reinstall Printer:

  • Sometimes, removing and reinstalling the printer can resolve connectivity issues. Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners, select your HP Envy 4512, and click Remove device. Then, add the printer again by clicking Add a printer or scanner.

Check for Printer Spooler Issues:

  • The print spooler service manages print jobs. Restarting it can sometimes fix printing problems:
    1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
    2. Locate Print Spooler, right-click it, and select Restart.

Verify App Settings:

  • Ensure that the applications you're trying to print from are properly configured to use your HP Envy 4512. Check the print settings within each app to confirm that the HP Envy 4512 is selected as the printer.

Check Network Connectivity:

  • Since the printer works with HP Smart, it should be connected to the same network as your computer. Double-check that there are no network issues that might affect other applications.

Run Windows Troubleshooter:

  • Windows has a built-in troubleshooter that can help diagnose and fix printing problems. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot, select Printer, and run the troubleshooter.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you Alden4.  I went through your steps , unistall and reinstall printer, reatart spooler, and troubleshooter.  The printer works for word and photoshop.  What it doesn't work in is for google chrome neither for web pages or for **bleep**.  Any idea what that might mean.

Hi @frank39,

Thank you for your response,

Since it works for other apps, this issue may be browser-specific or related to how Chrome interacts with your printer. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue.

Clear Google Chrome’s Print Cache:

  • Go to Chrome settings (click the three dots in the upper-right corner).
  • Navigate to Settings > Privacy and security > Clear browsing data.
  • Select Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files (no need to clear everything).
  • Try printing again from Chrome.

Reset Chrome Print Settings:

  • In Chrome, type chrome://settings/resetProfileSettings in the address bar and press Enter.
  • Click Reset Settings. This will reset Chrome's settings to default but won’t delete your bookmarks or saved passwords.
  • Try printing again after the reset.

Update Chrome:

  • Ensure that your Chrome browser is up-to-date. Go to the three dots in the upper-right corner and click Help > About Google Chrome. If there's an update available, Chrome will prompt you to install it.

Try Printing from a Different Browser:

  • Open a different browser like Microsoft Edge or Firefox, and try printing the same web page. If printing works from a different browser, the issue is specific to Chrome, and further troubleshooting in Chrome might be necessary.

Disable Hardware Acceleration in Chrome:

  • Go to Settings > Advanced > System.
  • Turn off Use hardware acceleration when available.
  • Restart Chrome and try printing again.

Test with a Different Print Driver:

  • You could try changing the print driver to a generic one to see if that works. Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on your printer and choose Properties.
  • Under the Advanced tab, click New Driver and select a generic HP or PCL driver.
  • Apply the new driver and try printing from Chrome again.

These steps should help isolate whether the problem lies within Chrome or how Chrome interacts with your printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Maybe this is completely unrelated but I have a strange default page that opens whenever I open chrome, that goes to a nonexisting page in the google webstore. See attached screen shot of the link which acts like it is in "on start" but it isn't.
