HP DeskJet 2755e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I have just set up my new HP DeskJet 2755e printer but the information light is on and the exclamation point is on the screen.  I am not sure why these are on.  Everything seems to be working just fine.  I believe I set everything up correctly.  How can I figure out what is going on with this and why they are on?

Hi @Gina555

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The Exclamation point and Information light on your HP DeskJet 2755e printer typically indicate that there is a warning or error on the printer. However, since you've mentioned that everything seems to be working fine, it could be a minor issue or an indication that the printer needs your attention. Here are some troubleshooting steps to help you identify and resolve the problem:

1. Check for Error Messages or Warnings:

  • Look at the printer's display screen. The Exclamation point often signifies that there is an alert or issue requiring attention.
  • If you see a specific message (like an error code or a description), take note of it and refer to your printer’s user manual or the HP support website to find more detailed information about that specific error.

2. Check Ink Cartridges:

  • Sometimes, an error light can appear if the ink cartridges are not properly installed.
  • Open the printer cover, remove the cartridges, and then reinsert them to make sure they are securely in place. Close the cover and see if the light goes away.

3. Paper Jam:

  • Another common cause for the Exclamation point and Information light is a paper jam.
  • Open the printer and inspect for any stuck paper or debris. Carefully remove any jammed paper if you find any, and then close the printer.
  • Make sure the paper tray is properly inserted and loaded with the correct paper size.

4. Check Printer Status Using HP Smart App:

  • Open the HP Smart App on your computer or mobile device.
  • Check the printer status on the app to see if any specific issues are being reported there. The app will often provide more details on the issue and may have troubleshooting options.

5. Printer Alignment:

  • Sometimes, the printer will show an exclamation point during or after setup if it’s still waiting to complete a printer alignment process.
  • Make sure the printer has completed the alignment process correctly. If you haven’t completed this, the printer may prompt you to do so. If the alignment is in progress, wait until it's completed to see if the lights go off.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

This was helpful.  I checked these things as best as I know how and they seem to be in order.  Yet, the orange light is still on and the exclamation point is still there.  When I scanned it scanned in black and white and not in color - that is the only thing that may have not worked quite right since I've set up the printer and started to use it.
