Hi @aerlichman
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thanks for explaining that. If your HP LaserJet MFP M234dw printer was previously connected but now refuses to join your wireless network, it’s often due to a network configuration mismatch, router upgrade, or a firmware glitch.
Here’s a structured approach to get it reconnected:
Step-by-Step Fix for Wireless Connection Issues
1. Reset Network Settings on the Printer
- Make sure the printer is powered on.
- Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button simultaneously for 3 seconds.
- This will reset the printer’s network settings and enable Wi-Fi setup mode (the wireless light should start blinking).
2. Reconnect Using HP Smart App
- Ensure your phone or PC is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want the printer to use.
- Open the HP Smart app and tap the + icon to add a printer.
- The app should detect the printer in setup mode and guide you through connecting it to Wi-Fi.
If the printer doesn’t appear, try connecting to the temporary HP-Setup network shown in your Wi-Fi list and return to the app.
3. Check Router Compatibility
- Confirm your router is broadcasting a 2.4 GHz signal (the M234dw does not support 5 GHz).
- Disable WPA3-only encryption and use WPA2-Personal (AES).
- Turn off MAC address filtering or client isolation, which can block printer access.
4. Update Printer Firmware
- Connect the printer via USB to your computer.
- Download the latest firmware from the HP M234dw support page.
- Run the firmware updater to ensure compatibility with newer routers.
Let me know what happens after resetting the network and trying the HP Smart app. If needed, I can walk you through assigning a static IP or checking router logs.
You're clearly persistent, and we’ll get your printer back online.
