HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M182nw

I have forgotten the admin password to access the admin web page and the configuration menu on the printer control panel.  How do I reset to factory?  To be clear, this is the admin password NOT the wireless password.

Hi @Ramjet69,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are trying to reset the admin password for your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M182nw requires performing a factory reset. This will restore the printer to its original factory settings, including clearing the admin password. Follow these steps:

Perform a Factory Reset

Access the Control Panel Menu:

  • On the printer's control panel, press the Setup button (gear icon) to access the settings menu.

Navigate to Service Menu:

  • Use the arrow buttons to scroll to Service and press OK.

Enter Reset Options:

  • Scroll to Restore Defaults and press OK. The printer will prompt you to confirm.

Confirm Reset:

  • Select Yes to confirm the reset. The printer will restart and restore factory settings.

Reset Through a USB Connection (Optional)

If the control panel option doesn't work or the printer is unresponsive, you can reset the printer using the HP Printer Utility on a computer:

  1. Download and install the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the HP Support website.
  2. Connect the printer to your computer via USB.
  3. Open the tool and follow on-screen instructions to perform a reset.

After the Reset

  1. Reconfigure the printer settings as needed, including setting up Wi-Fi and re-enabling Web Services.
  2. Log in to the Embedded Web Server (EWS) using the default credentials:
    • Username: admin
    • Password: Leave blank or use admin.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
