Officejet 3830. It's not a hardware issue as HP Ink told me recently.....it seems to be a software issue. I've heard there was some issue with Windows 10 and the HP printers. It was printing in black or color fine until recently. Now the option to select either black or color just disappeared from the print command screen. It does still print but black only.

Hi,
Try following below specific version of the HP Print and Scan Doctor Utility by selecting your printer:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/patches/HPPSdr.exe
Be sure to restart your PC and allow the utility to complete the process, then check for any difference.
Try printing and check for any change, if the same remains try printing using the newly added print queue copy (Copy1) and check for any difference.

Half of my problem resolved...... it now prints color, however STILL not seeing option to select either black or color print.....I don't necessarily want to print a doc that has color in it every time. I may want to sometimes select 'black' only......

Hi,
Be sure to check the Copy 1 print queue settings, if it started print color, it should show the Black & White / Color option within the Paper / Quality tab of its Printing Preferences.
Please check it from the printer driver itself - click Start > Settings (Gear icon) > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
Click the HP Officejet 3830 (Copy1) printer and select Manage.
If you see Set as Default on top, press it.
Click on Printing Preferences and then look within the Paper / Quality tab.
If you don't see any Color / Black option there, click on Advanced and there you should see a Print in Grayscale option.
Are you able to locate these options?
And assuming you can, but cannot see it from your printing application, what application are you printing from?

started your recommended process over..... restored Copy 1 of my printer...... using the 'other one' as it has the black or color print option. Set that version as my default printer..... problem resolved.....
