I have owneed this HP Officejet Pro 8710 for several years. In the past I could Print, and scan with no problems. Now, for no known reason it will not scan. (to my HP desktop computer.

I suggest that you uninstall the HP AIO printer and then install the HP Smart app from the Microsoft store and setup your printer again.
That will give you fresh drivers for your printer and scanner.
I happen to own an HP 8710 AIO printer and on the rare occasion that I have that issue, that is how I resolve it.
