You need software otherwise 2 devices don't know each other. Please download software and drivers from the following link and install to your computer

According to the user guide you should be able to use a standard USB cable.
the most common issue with wireless connection these days is a lack of compatibility between new 5Ghz wireless and printers. Often, configuring your wireless router so that it has a unique SSID for the 2.4Ghz channel and only allowing the printer to connect to that channel will resolve communication issues.
