Hi @sweetpeabarn,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If you want to print on card stock or heavier paper using your HP printer on Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan, follow these steps:
1. Load the Card Stock Properly
- Use the main input tray (not the photo tray, if your printer has one).
- Load the card stock with the print side facing down (for most HP printers).
- Don’t overload the tray—just a few sheets at a time to avoid jams.
2. Adjust Print Settings on Mac
- Open the document or photo you want to print.
- Click File > Print.
- In the print dialog, click Show Details (if hidden).
- Look for a Media & Quality or Paper Type/Quality section.
- Under Paper Type, select:
- Card Stock, Heavyweight, or HP Matte Brochure Paper (depending on what's available).
- Set Print Quality to Best for better results.
- Click Print.
If you don’t see these options, try selecting your printer from the dropdown again or click Printer Features in the print dialog.
3. Update Printer Drivers (Optional but Recommended)
Since you're on El Capitan, make sure you have the latest compatible driver:
- Visit HP Easy Start for Mac
- Enter your printer model and download the latest driver for OS X 10.11
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
