Hi @wildhog160,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To recover or factory reset the lost password for your OfficeJet Pro 8740 printer, you can follow these steps.

  • Ensure that the printer is turned on and connected to the same network as your computer or mobile device.
  • On your computer or mobile device, open a web browser and enter the IP address of the printer in the address bar. The IP address can usually be found on the printer's control panel or by printing a network configuration page.
  • Once you've entered the IP address, press Enter or Return to access the printer's embedded web server.
  • In the web server interface, navigate to the "Settings" or "Security" section. The exact location may vary depending on the printer's firmware version.
  • Look for an option to reset the password or restore the printer to factory defaults. It might be labeled as "Restore Defaults," "Factory Reset," or "Reset Password."
  • Click on the appropriate option and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset process. This will restore the printer's settings to their original factory defaults, including the password.
  • After the reset is complete, you can access the printer's settings using the default login credentials. Typically, the username is "admin," and the password is left blank or set to "admin" by default. However, it's essential to change the default password for security reasons.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
