Hello,

I was printing a big job, the yellow cartridge indicated low. So I replaced the yellow ink cartridge. A brand new cartridge, after installing, it quickly showed an ink level that was about the same as everything else. Almost empty,

The job continues to print and 10-20 prints later, the yellow ink cartridge indicates low again.

I know this is a brand new cartridge full of ink, but no matter how many suggestions I do, including resetting. Clean the electrical contacts. Uninstall/reinstall drivers... nothing is fixing this issue.

Please help.

Hi @PrinterPain10,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've already tried several common troubleshooting steps. Here are a few more things you can try to resolve the issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer's yellow ink cartridge:

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Sometimes firmware updates fix bugs related to ink cartridge recognition. Go to the HP website and check if there is a new firmware update for your printer model. Update the firmware on an HP printer

Use Original HP Cartridges:

  • Ensure you are using genuine HP cartridges. Sometimes third-party or refilled cartridges can cause recognition issues.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn on the printer and let it complete its initialization process.
  • With the printer on, disconnect the power cord from the printer and unplug it from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and reconnect it to the printer.
  • Turn the printer back on if it does not turn on automatically.

Inspect the Cartridge and Cartridge Slot:

  • Remove the yellow cartridge and inspect it for any damage or leaks.
  • Check the cartridge slot in the printer for any obstructions or dried ink that might be preventing a proper connection.

Run a Printhead Cleaning:

  • Sometimes, issues with ink recognition can be related to the printhead. Use the printer’s maintenance menu to run a printhead cleaning cycle.

Replace with Another New Cartridge:

  • Although it’s rare, sometimes new cartridges can be defective. Try using another new yellow cartridge to see if the problem persists.

Check Ink Levels in Printer Software:

  • Go to the printer software on your computer and check the ink levels there. Sometimes the printer's display may not reflect the actual ink levels.

Refer to this document: HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-in-One Printer series User manual

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
