Hi @Harriet600,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer is not responding to touch or slide inputs on the menu screen, it could be due to a software glitch, hardware issue, or a calibration problem. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Power Cycle the Printer:
- Press the power button to turn off the printer:
- Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
- Leave the printer unplugged for about 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet and the back of the printer.:
- Turn the printer back on and check if the touch screen is responsive.
2. Clean the Touch Screen:
- Ensure the printer is turned off before cleaning.:
- Gently wipe the touch screen with a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water. Do not use any cleaning solutions or sprays directly on the screen.:
- Turn the printer back on and check the responsiveness of the touch screen.
3. Reset the Printer
- Factory Reset:
- If the touch screen is unresponsive and you can't access the settings menu, you may need to perform a factory reset. This typically involves a sequence of button presses that varies by model. Refer to the user manual for specific instructions or try the following:
- With the printer turned on, press and hold the power button for 15 seconds. The printer should reset to its default settings.
4. Update Firmware
- Check for Firmware Updates:
- Visit the HP Support page and search for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer model.Download and install any available firmware updates. If the touch screen is completely unresponsive, use the HP Smart app on a connected device to check for and install firmware updates.
5. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download and Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- Download the tool from the HP Support page.Run the tool to diagnose and fix any issues related to the printer.
6. Check for Hardware Issues
- Inspect the Touch Screen:
- Check for any visible damage to the touch screen. If there is physical damage, the touch screen may need to be replaced
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
