hp 9010 SOFTWARE NOT ABLE TO RETRIEVE SSID

5 REPLIES 5
HP Recommended

@Sandraleanj

Welcome to the HP English Community --

I might not understand what you are asking.

SSID named network

The SSID named network is generally first created on the network's router.

If your network is running dual frequencies, for example, serving both 2.4GHz and 5GHz,

AND

If the router supports the option,

Then there might (should) be a separate SSID named network for each frequency / band.

Next,

The printer can be connected to the network using the printer's Control Panel or using the Embedded Web Server (EWS).

After the printer is connected to the network,

After supported Applications and / or the Full Driver printer software is installed on a computer on the same network,

The printer can be used with the installed applications and software.

NOTE

The router will manage traffic between separate SSID named networks.

For example, in a Dual Band Network, you need not connect all devices to one SSID named network.

Question

Where are you expecting to see the SSID named network in the printer app / software?

AND

Which printer application / software are you using or trying to install?

AND

Do you see any error messages?

The printer is on the network.  The software installation says it cannot retrieve the SSID.  If and when I get the printer software installed, I get the printer is offline.  If I put the IP address of the printer, it cannot find it.  I went through all the steps and removed all things related to the printer from the OS.  Rebooted and reinstalled the software, no luck, still says the printer is offline or it cannot find it.  And NO, there are no viruses on my system.  I have a firewall and an antivirus running on the system, which I take down when installing the HP software to ensure it is not the cause of the issue.

OK -

Some ideas...

Read / Try - Consider / Reject as appropriate to your situation.

If you are convinced all your network settings are correct computer, printer EWS, and in the router,

If router, printer, and computer are all showing as connected and on the same network,

then...

Perhaps recheck / adjust the settings for your printer's IPv4 assignment.

Restart the computer, printer, and router.

Check the SSID named network assignments you made on the router.

Example -

SSID_Dual_Band_Example_Router_2SSID_Dual_Band_Example_Router_2

If stuck using Wireless, consider switching the connection over to the 2.4GHz band / frequency.

In general,

  • 2.4GHz is less fussy about obstacles and supports a longer distance (separation) between router and device (printer)
  • 5GHz is faster

Thanks for your help with all this still no luck.  This has been the worst printer I have ever owned from HP and the last one I will ever own.

You are welcome.

Well, I might have missed something.

There are so many Troubleshooting documents and videos --

If you have any interest left, you might peruse the lists and open / view anything that looks interesting.

It is rare that the printer hardware fails -- for example the wireless radio is sturdy.

Ethernet is a better option when it's available -- more stable and generally fewer issues, in fact.

That said, sure - it's possible that something in the printer broke.

What else?

You could set the printer as close to Factory Settings as you want to take it.

You'll want to do this when you decide to get rid of the printer, so it's good to know...

User Guide - HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 series  > Page 184

OR

User Guide – HP OfficeJet Pro 9010e Series

For others reading -

Want / Need to start with something less invasive than the Factory Reset -

Reset the printer (Power Reset)

Reset the printer to recover from printer errors or failures.

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.

  2. Unplug the power cord from the power source.

  3. Wait 60 seconds. (OR wait a bit longer!)

  4. Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.

    Note:

HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

  5. Turn on the printer to complete the reset.

Understood - "Moving on"

We simply do not judge what people decide.

For others reading...

This printer - and all the 9010(e) / 9020(e) series - are at least a few old by now.

.

Replacing an older printer, regardless of the brand, perhaps makes sense.

Remember that new printers are likely different than their older counterparts --

  • Some new printers include new built-in security, a different (and more expansive) EWS format, new and extended features (on the high end products).
  • There are differences between models in the same series.
  • You get what you pay for -- High-end models cost more.

Observations of this type are generally true regardless of the brand.

HP has some nice options but I get that you might need to move on.

-- When you replace the printer --

If you still have problems,

If the router is weak, outdated (more than a year or two old), or lacks the capacity to manage all your devices,

Consider upgrading your Router.

What if?

The solution that everyone hates and it sometimes works when nothing else does:

Reload your Windows OS --

If the source of the issue is deep inside the Windows File System, the printer software will simply not install correctly.

Good Luck.
