Hi @AuntKaytie,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To connect your HP DeskJet 2700 series printer to your computer using a USB cable, follow these steps:
Connecting HP DeskJet 2700 via USB Cable
Prepare the USB Cable:
- Ensure you have a standard USB A-to-B cable. The USB B end (square-ish connector) goes into the printer, and the USB A end (flat connector) goes into your computer.
Power On the Printer:
- Ensure your HP DeskJet 2700 printer is turned on.
Connect the USB Cable:
- Plug the USB B end of the cable into the printer’s USB port.
- Plug the USB A end of the cable into an available USB port on your computer.
Install Printer Drivers (if necessary):
- Your computer may automatically detect the printer and install the necessary drivers.
- If the drivers are not automatically installed, download and install them manually from the HP Support website.
Download and Install HP Smart (if not already installed):
- Go to the HP Smart app page and download the HP Smart app for your operating system.
- Install and open the HP Smart app.
Set Up the Printer in HP Smart:
- Open the HP Smart app and click on the + sign to add a printer.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to add your DeskJet 2700 printer. The app should detect your printer via the USB connection.
Update Printer Firmware:
- It’s always a good idea to ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Check for firmware updates on the HP Support website.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
